MetalScapes Artist Steven W. Huffman grew up in the Midwest beauty of Iowa, with its many changing seasons, and understands the effects that the elements’ weather can bring.
Born in 1953, I had an early interest in art and the creativity it entails. As art came naturally to me, I spent many hours drawing and learning the concepts of proportion, balance, movement, depth, and textures in each one I created.
Noticed by many as an up-and-coming artist with creative potential, even at the age of 15, I was allowed to teach perspective drawing to fellow art students in both school and private lessons.
Art always has been and continues to be a lifelong pursuit. I began my formal education in 1971 as a student of Architecture at Iowa State University. My interests led me to become self-employed in the field of construction, where I continued to gain insight into technical and product knowledge. I became certified in the applications of many specialty products and media.
Now, after 51 years, I most definitely feel comfortable, but I always reach for the next level in the field of creating and the development of many forms of art. To become enveloped in the experience of the creation process myself, and do the same for all viewers. You must experience art with as many of the human senses as possible, as well as the chosen medium’s abilities. Most of all, one needs to "feel" the movement or message of the sculpture
MetalScapes are all originals in which I capture a unique perspective in each one. My goals are to make each MetalScape Sculpture "Site Specific. Meaning, "tell a story" about an individual in the sculpture, or the history of the area where the sculpture will be placed.
Bent, twisted, cut, or torn, I enjoy taking what some may consider "the unlovely" and creating something of beauty that can be admired and studied. The viewer may return and see something they had missed before. Kind of like finding Waldo. Whether it's the scrap metal used or the story being told
Excellence and quality are a priority. I have often been sought out as a consultant because of those abilities in both residential and commercial applications.
While being inspired at an early age in life, through the development of various opportunities, and self-guided studies, I give all credit to the "Master Creator", God, for this gifting and enjoy encouraging other artists, no matter their age, in their artistic dreams.
